Albanian prison statistics

For the second consequent year, the General Prison Police published an
informing manual about what happens within the Albanian prisons for all
people that have been sentenced or that are awaiting trial.

The informing material for the public and the international organizations has collected data about the number of inmates, their crimes, their age, gender and how many of them are awaiting trial.

From 4659 citizens that are currently in prison, 1148 are sentenced for murder, 571 for wounding, 540 for drug charges, 114 for theft and 87 for rape.

More than 1100 of them are from 30 to 40 years of age, the second group age is 25-30, and in the third place are minors and senior citizens, not more than 120 of them.

The General Chief of Prisons says that the report has studied more than 21 prisons, including hospitals, and all of them are taken care by a staff of 3822 people.

1014 of them are sentenced from six months to one year, 557 others three to five years, 330 from 10 to 20 years, and 256 more than 20 years.
