President of Albania issued a decree setting the date of the elections for the Assembly of Albania. The general elections will be held on May 11, 2025.
For these elections, President Bajram Begaj had four Sundays available between April 15 and May 15, 2025.
The fundamental reason for setting May 11, 2025 as the date for holding these elections lies in the need expressed by the CEC to use all the time available to prepare the legal and organizational infrastructure to enable the successful and effective voting of Albanians from abroad.
The President of the Republic expresses his conviction that the major challenge of these elections is voting of expats from abroad. All political forces have publicly expressed their determination to assist this process and to subordinate the setting of the election date to this priority interest.
The President of the Republic, after making all the necessary verifications with the competent authorities of Albania, officially received assurances that the above activity will take place after the parliamentary elections, a fact confirmed to the President of the Republic by international interlocutors.
‘The official confirmation removes the reservation expressed by the Democratic Party and the rest of the parliamentary parties to the date of May 11, 2025 and makes this date acceptable and palatable to the entire political factor’, the decree states.
