Jelko Kacin, Vice Chairman of the Delegation for Balkan at the European
Parliament, declared that the Albanian politicians must be unanimous,
since the status can be achieved in June. He adds that rather than
trying to convince the European Union member countries, the Albanian
delegates are more focused on speaking against each other.
The Rapporteur for Albania, Nikola Vuljanic, says that in the last Strasbourg meeting they heard irrelevant accusations. “When I and Tanya Fayon raised the January 21st issue, there was no answer”, he underlined, adding that when someone is killed, this is something that cannot be overlooked. Top Channel’s correspondent, Arta Tozaj, had an interview with Mr.Kacin and Vuljanic.
Tozaj: Mr.Kacin, you said you noted some kind of better mood in the discussion of the Committee with Albania. What is the difference?
Jelko Kacin, vice chairman of the Delegation for Balkan at the European Parliament: “I would say that your Parliament Members are more diplomatic than before and they don’t shout as they used to. They are not as aggressive as before against each other, but the discussion is still done between your delegation only.
It appears like they do not understand that their delegation must agree with ours. They are so busy with themselves, that sometimes it looks irrelevant if we are present in the room or not. They want to repeat in front of us everything that they know about each other, just in a more polite way than before.
But to find a solution and progress, they have a desperate need of dialogue with other institutions. What we want as a promise, is to improve them so that they can talk unanimously. Let’s talk on behalf of Albania about what the coalition and the opposition are ready to do, to implement, to improve and to bring progress for the other membership phases.
Since Albania is about to start this process, they have a desperate need for the status, and this status is reachable in June. I think that they are not understanding what they are doing to themselves. They are doing nothing, because they are too busy with themselves.
We are here to listen the messages of Tirana coming from both parties, about what Albania wants to do in the second half of this year. Certainly, we are friends and very dedicated to support Albania, but this is not enough. They must convince the member countries, and it will be difficult without an unanimous voice.”
Nikola Vuljaniç, rapporteur for Albania: “I think that we are stuck in a vicious circle. I feel like I am in a tennis field, watching left and right about everything they say. I am not interested in who is to blame for the presence of corruption.
I am not interested if the corrupted are the Prime Minister or the opposition. What I’m interested in is how and what will the government and the opposition do to help their country. This is the only thing to be discussed here, and this was not discussed. We heard constant accusations during the entire time, which are all futile.
When I and Mrs.Fayon raised the January 21st issue, we had no answer. The only sentence that I heard, and which was terrible, is that everyone knows. I know that you all know that, but why don’t you do something about it?”
Tozaj: In what sense “everyone knows”?
Vuljaniç: “That someone was killed. That’s what the head said. I know that everyone knows that those people were killed by the Security Forces, and that the Security Forces were there for this. There were TV cameras and everything is on tape. So, I’m not really interested if one guard or another killed them, because this is up to the police. But they have been killed. Just the truth. It cannot be overlooked. In a civil society we cannot overlook the fact that someone has been killed.
