Despite not having found a body, the Albanian police has released a statement saying they are confident the missing person Jak Prenga, was abducted and died of mistreatment, before being sent to a resort in Shijak, near Tirana.

The authorities tried to discredit the substantial amount of speculation in the national media on the matter, saying the majority of those are untrue. Meanwhile the search for body of the 49-year-old is still under way.

“Clarification to public opinion regarding the abduction resulting in the death of citizen J. P. and the work of the Police in disclosing and documenting this event. The Special Investigation Task Force has the evidence-based conviction that citizen J. P. was held hostage at the resort owned by citizen A. H., resident in Shijak, and has undeniable evidence that he died on January 17, the day of the abduction, before being sent to the resort without any signs of life.
“Considering the importance of this investigation, as well as the concern of family members who are waiting to body of J. P., seek the understanding of journalists and analysts not to publish untrue or unfounded data that undermine the progress of investigation”, said the statement among other things.

Earlier police has stated that Prenga’s abduction has come as a result of a conflict that one of the victim’s brothers has had with the kidnappers, over a drug deal.
