Minister Delina Ibrahimaj, after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, announced today that a decision has been taken to dismiss Safet Gjici, the mayor of Kukes Municipality in the north of Albania.
“The Council of Ministers made a decision for the immediate dismissal of the mayor of Kukes”, said Ibrahimaj.
This decision came after the publication of the video where Gjici is seen having sexual relation in the office. Earlier he also resigned from his post.
Through a “Facebook” status, Gjici has announced that he has fallen prey to a trap, “orchestrated” by his opponents.
He says that he had an intimate relationship with the woman in the video and that he feels “deeply sorry” for betraying the people who trusted him with their vote.
Gjici further says that he has apologized to all the supporters saying that the honor of his life was tarnished by an unforgivable frivolity.
“Deep public sympathy to anyone who saw that ugly video material today. After a difficult campaign and confrontation with my opponents, after which I emerged victorious, unfortunately I fell prey to a trap prepared in detail by the same people I faced in the election.
“They managed to do in another dirty form what they could not do with the vote of the residents of Kukes. I am very sorry for the incident and I am more than clear that in this situation there is no value in any kind of explanation.
“For some time, I have had an intimate relationship with the woman in question, but of course I have no excuse for what happened despite being trapped”, writes Gjici, among other things.
