In an interview for the Voice of America, a New York professor warned Albania and Kosovo for the danger of the Turkish influence in these countries.

Alon Ben-Meir says that it is clear that the objective of Recept Tayyip Erdogan is to expand his control over Balkan.
Ben-Meir, a scholar at the Center for Global Maters at the New York University, said that the Albanian leaders have accommodated Turkey due to their mutual interests, but they should distance themselves if they want to join the EU.

“Erdogan’s agenda is to encourage Islamism wherever he can and bring back a variant of the Ottoman Empire. He was the one saying this. His former PM, Davutogly, and many officials who communicate with us regularly say that until 2023, on the 100th anniversary of the new Turkish Republic, his power will be similar to the Ottoman empire during the 500 years that they ruled the area. His agenda is not for the best of Kosovo and Albania. He wants to attract them to his orbit, away from the EU, using religions as a political instrument and for promoting the Turkish agenda”, he said on VOA.
