The acting Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Gent Cakaj, spoke about the Parliamentary elections in Kosovo which were won by the Self-Determination Movement, having the Democratic League listed second.
Cakaj said that the elections of October 6th were a model for the entire region, and that the Kosovo electorate showed maturity and responsibility.
He added that the government of Albania is looking forward to cooperate with the new government of Kosovo.
When asked about the comments made by Josep Borrell, candidate for EU’s post as High Representative for Foreign Affairs, who said that Kosovo will not be a country until it is recognized by Russia, China and India, Cakaj said that the matter here is not whether some countries have recognized Kosovo or not, since Kosovo is an objective reality, and its independence is irreversible.
The Foreign Minister of Austria reinforced Cakaj’s opinion by saing that Kosovo is a reality: “Austria is among the first countries that recognized its independence. Most of the UN countries already recognize it. However, the EU has followed a coherent policy towards Prishtina and Belgrade, and will keep doing it.
