The Albanian Minister of Defense, Olta Xhacka, is attending a visit in Washington, where she was received by the US Defense Secretary, James Mattis.
“Albania has shown that their geographic size doesn’t matter as much as their commitment in the NATO alliance. As a determined ally, Albania strikes harder than its weight”, Mattis declared, thanking Albania for the NATO commitment.
“You are our ally not only in uniform but in all other aspects, and you will always have our assistance on this”, he declared.
Minister Xhacka thanked Secretary Mattis for the support given by the USA to the Armed Forces in various missions, operations, education opportunities and training, all very necessary to face today’s security challenges.
The Minister suggested the US officials to study the idea of having Albania as a contact country for the Western Balkan region. According to Xhacka, a presence of USA or NATO would be a clear demonstration that the region has not been forgotten by its allies.
