After receiving the candidate status, a team of the European Commission,
led by the Director for Enlargement, jean Eric Paquet, have arrived in
Tirana to scan the progress of reforms and of the steps that Albania
needs to take.
They have discussed this issue for more than two hours with the Minister of Integration, Klajda Gjosha. After the meeting, Mr.Paquet declared:
“I am here to keep working with the administration and the other main actors as regards Albania’s integration after receiving the candidate status in June. Especially for preparing the next high-rank dialogue, which Commissioner Fule will have with Prime Minister Edi Rama, the government and the opposition on September 29th”, Paquet declared.
Is Albania on the right track to fulfill the five priorities that will open the membership negotiations?
“There is still a lot of work being done, there’s no doubt about this. This Thursday morning we will review everything that is happening with the public administration, the justice, the rule of law for the fight against corruption and organized crime. Many things are happening that we will technically review this Thursday and then during the high-level dialogue”, Paquet declared.
The Director for EU enlargement says that he hopes that the political parties will avoid conflicts and adhere to all inclusiveness.
“As the commissioner said, and I believe that the same thing was said by the opopsition and the government too, the EU integration processes should be as all-inclusive as possible. This is what the SP, DP and the Commissioner wish. This is what we all wish to see more”, Paquet declared.
