“Wage and pension increase” was the keyword of Prime Minister’s Sali Berisha speech at the government meeting.
Berisha considered this as one of the most important decisions, not only because it realized the government program, but also because this decision was taken in a difficult economic period for the country and the Euro zone.
Berisha addressed the internal difficulties mainly to the first trimester of the year, due to the frozen roads of the country in winter and the high price of the electric power import.
According to Berisha, these consequences are now fading away, what allowed the government to increase the payments and pensions, different to the other countries that have reduced them or at least kept them unchanged.
“This decision is twice more important for the time in which it is taken. Albania could be listed as the few countries of the continent that increased the wages and pensions of its citizens. I want to guarantee that everything has been achieved without taking any debt”, Berisha declared.
On the last year of the second mandate, the Prime Minister compared the situation of wages and pensions with the time when he came in power, in 2005.
Besides underlining the smaller difference between wages and pensions, the Prime Minister emphasized the fact that they were increased since when he came to power.
In general, according to the Prime Minister’s data, the average wage has been doubled, while teachers, nurses and doctors have had their wages 2 or 2.5 times bigger than in 2005.
Berisha also mentioned the pensions in villages and cities, which made the government to be closer to the 820.000 families that benefit from it.
