Albania left behind with education

The education level of the Albanian students is much lower than in other European countries ad even in Western Balkans.

The World Bank Director for Southeastern Europe, Ellen Goldstein, declared that Albania resulted in a problematic level in the past studies, as regards the knowledge of children in reading and math.

“The performance of Albanian children is still low in reading and math. Despite the investments and the improvements in the past years, Albanians are behind other Western Balkan countries and similar countries with average revenues|”, Goldstein declared.

Prime Minister Rama said that teachers will not be allowed to teach classes outside their profile, since this reform has destroyed the system.

“There is a discrepancy that might be unique in the world. 50% of teachers teach subjects outside their profiles. You can only imagine the quality”, Rama declared.

“It is intolerable to continue this method when even in Korce, which is a city with old traditions in teaching, we have found 128 teachers that teach outside their profile”, declared the Minister of Education, Lindita Nikolla.

The government leader declared that the education reform should be seen from kindergartens to the higher education, where there are more problems. Kindergartens are overloaded and cannot handle more than 14% of the flux, while problems in public universities are as big as in the private sector.

The Prime Minister said that he would support the funding of education so that their situation can change.
