The same appreciation of Kosovo’s key role in the creation of the
Albanian state made Sali Berisha and Edi Rama to be together in the same
conference organized by the state of Kosovo for the 100th anniversary
of independence.
Referring to history from the League of Prizren, Sali Berisha considered Kosovo the cradle of the national awareness and of the ethnic Albania ideology. Rama spoke about the decisive role of the 1908 rebellion and the constant contribution that Kosovo gave to Albania’s independence. Both believed to the national unification, not by changing the borders, but by common actions in both Albania states, in order to overcome the division caused by the violence of the last century, also led by the common EU goal.
“Let’s make everything possible so that borders remain unimportant. Let’s take other additional measures that will unify standards, norms and practices by respecting the existing international borders. The national unification right is a saint right, but it needs to be inspired and led by the national interest, and the national interest is that the Albanians should not lose a single meter of territory. Every redrawing of the territories would mean loosing new territories. We are temporary here, but the territories are permanent”, Berisha declared.
“It’s easy to raise the nationalist and patriotic flag, to remove attention from the real problems that we have on both sides of the border. It is difficult, but the only really patriotic duty is to turn the heritage that was left to us through this flag into new politics that cooperate with each other, so that the next generations will not inherit the open wounds that are deteriorating each year, as result of what we inherited from a difficult and bitter past for both of us”, Rama declared.
Their similar messages came from Kosovo, on this 100th year of independence, when Kosovo is finally free and independent.
