Albania-Germany relations

Strauss was the only western official who visited the isolated Albania, and which served as a start for the new relations. Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta declared that same as 30 years ago, both visits are a sign of the European future of Albania.

“The visit of Franz Josep Strauss 30 years ago showed that the project of the United Europe could not be complete without its eastern part. If we had opened our borders since then, Albania might have been in the EU today. However, today’s visit of the Bundestag shows the good relations with Germany. This is a very important visit for the development of our country and for the European future. We thank the support of Germany for our reforms in implementing the law”, Meta declared.

Meta’s counterpart, Johannes Singhammer, declared that the relations between Albania and Germany have entered a new era, and that Albania’s chances to join the Union are real.

“I think that the chances of Albania for Europe are better than ever before. We will make a good use of the political and economic areas. During today’s visit, we experienced the friendship and generosity of the Albanian people. Albania is an important factor of stability in the region”, Singhammer declared.

The German Ambassador to Tirana, Helmut Hofman, underlined that both countries have excellent bilateral relations, and Germany is among Albania’s main partners.

“Albania has had important developments recently, such as the candidate status. Other challenges are approaching now, and Albania has good chances. An important indicator is the conference for Balkan in Germany”, Hoffman declared.

Prime Minister Edi Rama invited the German businessmen to invest in Albania for improving our country’s image. Rama said that it is necessary to reinforce the cooperation between Albania and Germany.
