The inter-parliamentary meeting between Albania and the European Union
concluded positively. After the Council of Stabilization and Association
had failied in the last two years, due to the political disagreements
in Albania, this time the majroity and opposition signed the signing of
the European Parliament and the joint resolution, in which is underlined
the support of the European Commission recommendation to give Albania
the candidate status and to address a joint appeal to the European
Council for a vote in favor of Albanian this December.
The head of the European Parliament delegation, Eduart Kukan, declared that the Albanian government and parliament must undertake tangible actions until December, especially for the war against corruption.
The 13-point resolution lists a series of criteria that have not been fulfilled by the Albanian side yet. Besides corruption and improving the legislation for the organized crime, criminal assets, the judiciary, it includes also the other independent institutions. The resolution does not include the internal debate for the public administration, although the recent replacements have been a hot topic between the majority and opposition in presence of the internationals.
The last message of the European Parliament before leaving Tirana was to encourage the Albanian government to convince the skeptic countries with tangible acts of their work, before the decision of December.
