The Minister of Integration, Majlinda Bregu, and the head of the EU
presence in Tirana, Ettore Sequi, together with Ministers Ksera and
Halimi, signed the IPA agreement, through which Albania will benefit 82
million EUR. This financial package will be used for financing some
projects.
“The money will be used for four infrastructure projects, such as the construction of the Vlore Bypass, the Velipoje Sewerage Procession Plant, the rehabilitation of the professional schools in Lezhe, Fier and Cerrik, and the improvement of the rural infrastructure in Albania”, Minister Bregu declared.
Ambassador Ettore Sequi declared that it is Albania’s responsibility to use the financial package with efficiency, which comes in a time of economic crisis for the EU. Sequi reminded that the 82 million EUR taken by Albania make the total aid that Albania has received since 1991 up to 1.4 billion EUR.
“We expect Albania to improve the Parliament functionality, to implement the OSCE-ODIHR priorities, to guarantee the transparency principles and professionalism for the state administration employees. We also expect that the legislation mentioned at the key priorities, which requires qualified majority, will pass in Parliament. The rule of law and justice should not be delayed. We expect Albania to fight corruption in all levels, including organized crime”, Sequi declared.
After this agreement was signed, Top Channel asked ambassador Sequi about the situation created at the Ombudsman premises, where some families of the Roma community have been sheltered recently.
“We were here today to sign a financial agreement of IPA, but you have heard that EU is committed and dedicated to the Roma community. In fact, in the agreement signed today between EU and Albania with Minister Bregu, 1.5 million EUR have been assigned as assistance for the Roma community. As regards your question, I desire to visit the Ombudsman office for understanding the situation better”, Sequi declared.
