Every country in the world is suffering pollution by plastic bags, which end up every year in oceans.
A map shown by Newcastle University shows the quantity of plastic bags in every country. Albania, according to this map, has 5 tons of waste for every square mile, above the ground. Underground there are expected to be more than 10,000 tons of unprocessed plastic waste.
The law against usage of plastic bags entered in effect two days ago in Albania, but it is still too soon to talk about concrete results. They are still being used.
The elimination of plastic bags is part of a long-term UN strategy, aiming to be completed by 2030.
