The massive pollution of the Fierza Lake in Kukes has obliged the local
government representatives, directors of main institutions, owners of
businesses and army leaders to sit together and find an immediate
solution for cleaning the lake as quickly as possible.
The Prefect of the Kukes District, Safet Gjici, considered the situation as unacceptable, which requires intensive work, quick and in cooperation with many directors, so that the lake can be cleaned. He said that they are discussing with the Albanian Ambassador in Kosovo for the communes which are part of the pollution.
“The communes and municipalities that dump urban wastes will be held accountable and will be fined”, declared Safet Gjici, Prefect of Kukes.
One of the required solutions is that the Kukes Municipality should not discharge sewerage waters in the lake.
The main polluters are the communes of Terthora, Zapod, Shishtavec, Bicaj, Ijmisht and Bushtrisw in Albania, the communes of Gjakova, Prizren and Decan of Kosovo, and some local units in Macedonia.
