The former negotiator for the Kosovo Status, Marti Ahtisari, declared
that Serbia must not be allowed in the EU without recognizing Kosovo’s
independence first.
Speaking from the peace institution head quarters “Crisis Management Inititative”, the former Finnish President emphasized that the EU countries that have not recognized Kosovo have encouraged Serbia.
“Serbia has lost Kosovo from a long time now, after the bad behavior of several years against the Kosovan people”, Ahtisari declared, according to RTK.
However, he expressed his conviction that the independence will be recognized soon by the states that have rejected it so far.
Kosovo has been recognized by 91 states, but the problem is that five EU members have not recognized it yet (Spain, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Cyprus).
The Nobel prize winner commented the declaration of the new Serbian President, Tomislav Nikolic, who declared that he will not recognize Kosovo even if EU will be sacrificed.
“If Russia is what he wants, let him go there. No concession is acceptable”, declared the UN envoy who gave independence to Kosovo.
