For the first time, Macedonia’s political fate might be decided by
Albanians. The two bigger parties are almost equal and none of the can
form a government without the Albanian politicians.
But the Albanian parties also cannot do anything without Ali Ahmeti’s BDI, which received 10 MPs, despite pressure.
The BDI leader was called for a consultation meeting with PM Edi Rama in Tirana, but he refused to go. His collaborators justify the absence with the political chaos in Macedonia, and say the meeting might take place next week.
Sources in Skopje say the BDI have not appreciated Tirana’s approach to MP Muhamed Zeqiri of the LSDM, and also collaborator of Zoran Zaev, leader of the opposition.
The Albanian parties, in the meantime, are looking for their negotiation conditions. Besa’s condition is to never make any coalition with the BDI, but the Alliance for Albanians doesn’t have such a condition. However, none of them will be able to form a government without the BDI, unless the MPs of Macedonian parties abandon their parliamentary groups.
The conditions of the BDI are related to the Ochrid agreement and also to a wider representation of Albanians in politics.
Analysts in Skopje say that Albanians might receive the post of Parliament Speaker and ministries traditionally held by Macedonians. The elections did not bring a solution to the crisis and if the elections will not be repeated, Albanian parties might decide the fate of the next Macedonian government.
