One day after the critic declarations from the American Chamber of Commerce, with its Chairman, Mark Crawford, accusing the government of establishing fees that take the tax ratio to 30-40% of the profit, the Minister of Finances, Arben Ahmetaj, responded today by saying that Crawford’s reaction was emotional.
“The flat tax Crawford has been demanding has increased poverty and inequality, with the economic growth dropping from 6.5% to 1%. The progressive tax has reduced poverty and increased the economic growth by 4%”, Ahmetaj declared.
“We removed tax for small businesses and, paid the scanning fee for manufacturing businesses and reduced VAT for tourism at 6%”, Ahmetaj added.
The Minister said the government cannot fulfil every request of businesses for reducing taxes when Albania remains among the countries with the highest debt. “Where have you seen countries without taxes and without fees?” Ahmetaj concluded.
