For more information about the income tax, the Minister of Economy,
Arben Ahmetaj, was invited today on Top Channel’s main news edition.
TCH: During the electoral campaign, the Socialist Party promised to reduce taxes for everyone with monthly salaries of 150.000 ALL. Do you stand to this promise? Because the graphic shows that there is a limit much under this, at 90.000.
Ahmetaj: There is no final decision on the income tax. What the public has seen is not true. It is a rumor started from the opposition, which has caused the difficult economic situation. Today we have a responsible government that does simply make inauguration ceremonies, but is ready to keep its promises.
TCH: You say that the draft is being discussed. What are the variants under discussion? Is there a worse progressive tax than what has been shown on the media?
Ahmetaj: I guarantee that the promise is on the basis of our program. We are being involved in a program with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank to stabilize the Albanian economy. To achieve this we need to stabilize this situation. The Albanians will need to do sacrifices because of the irresponsible behavior of the past government. The current opposition has caused this economic ruin.
TCH: Although there is no final variant, can you ay how the income tax is calculated for salaries over 90.000?
Ahmetaj: 95% of the Albanian people will pay less. Who earns less, will pay less. After finalizing the program with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, we will make 95% of the Albanians to pay less. The situation is bad and sacrifices are needed. After the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, the Albanian people will hear about what we will decide with the international institutions. I didn’t give a final answer because there is no final decision.
