Farmers try to plant what they can but they don’t cooperate with each
other for large quantities. For this reason, the government has created
for the first time a regional map, which suggests farmers what to plant
and guarantees support with subventions, so that the products could be
guaranteed with quality and quantity.
The Minister of Agriculture, Edmond Panariti, declared that vegetables take a huge part of this map. These are the main export products.
“Vegetables are the strongest product of Albanian agriculture. We have seen an increase in the last nine months. This is very encouraging and shows that we can compete with vegetables. The map of vegetables is big, but the strongest area is the Fier District, Lushnje, Berat, Tirana, Durres and Shkoder”, Panariti declared.
Prime Minister Rama declared that this map will help passing one of the biggest problems in the Albanian agriculture, which is the fragmentation of parcels.
“If the government encourages only apples, let’s say, in a specific terrain, the land fragmentation changes immediately, since people get united by investing on the same product, without really uniting in a cooperative”, Rama declared.
The Prime Minister said that it is alarming that Albanian farmers cannot attract EU funds and other money that is appointed by the state budget.
