The government aims to create the Agricultural Bank through the saving and credit union.
The Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani, used the National Assembly of this institution to make the proposition public.
“I
would dare discuss in this honorable assembly of the financial world of
the countryside, the creation of the Agricultural Bank. We see you as
one of the essential factors for the creation of this bank. Certainly,
it is still our desire and your vision to realize this”, Cani declared.
Agriculture
gives 19% of the Gross Domestic Product and employes almost half of the
active population. Regardless of its weight in economy, farmers have no
access for loans. Their only resource for funds have been the saving
and crediting associations.
“During 2013, thanks to a network
that covers 1080 villages, the Albanian Saving Credit Union has offered
the most competitive services in our market, injecting 12 million EUR in
5100 farmers, and collecting 3.4 million of new deposits”, declared
Zana Konini, director of the ASC Union.
The creation of a special
bank for funding agriculture has been asked even by experts, in order
to increase production and revenues in villages.
