Agolli: The Municipality started from scratch

The City Administrator at the Tirana Municipality, Dritan Agolli,
declared that from 2000 until today, the local administration has done a
colossal work for the Albanian capital.

Talking on Top Channel’s “Top Story”, Agolli declared that when this administration came into power, Tirana was at a miserable state.

“Tirana did not exist in 2000. Existed with its official functions, but there was no city. All of us remember the garbage piles, the old buses and the lack of green spaces. We started from scratch, and we have done an extraordinary job”, Agolli declared, presenting the long term projects of the Municipality.

“We started our development strategies and plans that culminated during the years 2007-2008. We have a development plan that continues until 2020, which will turn Tirana into a regional center. We have done something very useful for the citizens”, Agolli specified.

He clarified that the initial Urban Plan was designed in 2003, followed by the French plan for the regulation of Tirana and then by the Swiss plan.

“We have designed the Urban Plan since 2003, which was the first step towards a work that goes beyond the everyday job, beyond the cleaning of the streets. In 2004, the Urban Study was approved, that has been called “the French Plan”, which provided the pedestrian area in the city. This was the first plan that included the tram line, which was the city of the future. With the approval of the French Plan, the Tirana Regulatory plan will start functioning”, Agolli noted.

“After this we made the Swiss plan, while in 2008 we approved the Regulatory Plan that would put 400,000 residents closer to the Albanian capital. In 2010 we approved the plan of transportation, which shows how the bicycle and pedestrian movement will be managed in the city”, he added.
