Fiks Fare program brought tonight the complaints of the residents of the “Demokracia” neighborhood in Mamurras in northwestern Albania, who have been suffering from a lack of tap water for 30 years.

There were 50 families of this neighborhood who in the winter solved the water problem with wells, but in summer they remained at the mercy of fate.

“We buy water bottles, all my pension goes to buying water,” says a pensioner, while another elderly woman says she goes to the springs and fills water with canisters.

All the residents have also complained to the Kurbin Municipality, but they have not found any solution. “I went to the deputy mayor, he didn’t do anything, he says the water will come next year,” says a resident.

The journalists went to the water supply point from where the water was distributed for the residents of the “Demokracia” neighborhood.

A worker theresays that she turns on the water on schedule, but surprisingly it does not go to the residents’ apartments. Fiks Fare journalists tried to open the faucet themselves that enabled water supply to the residents, and surprisingly, at that moment, the residents called and said the water came.

The employee who says that she has been doing this job for 20 years says that she turns on the water as prescribed, but she doesn’t know why it doesn’t work.

Meanwhile, the water supply manager in Mamurras, Rasim Milla accepts the problem of the residents. “We know this problem for 30 years, we hope an investment will be made as soon as possible. As the network is highly old and this leads to very large losses in the network. For this reason, the water does not reach the end point, which is this neighborhood,” says Milla.

He does not accept that the water began to be distributed only after the arrival of the journalists, as according to him ‘it has arrived at other times as well’.
