The US Vice President, Mike Pence, met with all Western Balkan leaders in Montenegro, during the Adriatic Charter Summit.
After each leader held meetings behind closed doors, the Prime Minister of Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, read the Summit’s declaration.
“We confirm the importance of political, economic and defense cooperation between our countries. It is very constructive to share between us reforms and integration experiences, and to intensify regional cooperation. In the future we will be led by the conviction that the Euro-Atlantic inteegration of the region, based on solidarity and democratic valus, is necessary for a long-term stability”, Zaev declared.
The joint declaration underlines that none of the commitments undertaken in this summit would have not been possible without the help of the USA, which in 2003 built the Adriatic Charter mechanism to allow Albania, Croatia and Macedonia become NATO members.
Later it was joined by Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, while Kosovo and Serbia have the observer status. The meeting was held in Podgorica, two months after the small Balkan country became NATO’s newest member.
