Adem Demaci, Kosovo’s symbol of Albanian resistance, passed away at 82

The Parliament of Kosovo held one minute of silence today for the passing away of Adem Demaci, an important figure of Albanians in Kosovo.
Demaci was born in Podujeva, Kosovo, in 1936. He was arrested by the Yugoslav authorities for his resistance against the authoritarian rule of Tito’s government. Demaci was arrested in 1964 and released only in 1990.
After being released he turned into a very important human rights activists. He received the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought in 1991, the “University of Oslo’s Human Rights Award in 1995, and “Hero of Kosovo” in 2010, for his political involvement with the Kosovo Liberation Army.
