“Accusations against army, low”

The United States Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu answered if the image of the Albanian Armed Forces has been damaged after the recent accusations.

“I don’t know if this is a closed story. I think that a few days ago this matter arrived where it should. The claims were very serious and unfortunately were politicized. That’s why I say that such claims arrived where they should, at the right hands of authorities. If there has been something criminal, then it should be investigated. Seeing the situation between the majority and the opposition during these days, it is sad that one party thinks that the other one will get stained with these accusations”, the ambassador declared.

Regardless of the fact if these accusations are part of a political battle started from the opposition, the Ambassador thinks that the Albanian people is able to understand its purpose.

“They should be careful on how they do this, because people are not stupid. People understand the motives, especially when you try to involve the army or the police in this. And especially when an institution such as the army is being used for political points. This is something low. People don’t like it. I have spoken with many people and I have met no one who likes this. After all, this noise damages more the party that launches the accusations, except for when there is a solid evidence”, Arvizu declared.

Can a political party create its cause based on information without evidence?

“This is a very regrettable aspect in politics, not only in Albania, but even in the United States today. This happens because we have 247 of news editions that circulate even in the social media. What happens is that someone makes an unfounded accusations, which is then softened down by saying that not everything that was said was correct. But once you have said it, thousands of people believe it. And only after this has been already spread, evidence come to light and show that it was all fabricated. We see this in the United States of America especially during the electoral campaigns, when they produce a vicious circle”, Arvizu declared.

What does Alexander Arvizu think about the functionality of the Albanian Parliament, which every Thursday turns into a political battle, outside any parliamentary ethics?

“Unfortunately, different from the United States of America, we see this in Albania every week. We see this every Thursday. Thursday is the less favorite day for me in Albania, and I try to not watch TV, because it is depressing. I could describe it as an abnormal show that has nothing to do with the concerns of the citizens”, Arvizu declared.
