“Accrediting private hospitals”

Private hospitals will undergo a testing for accrediting within this year, as regards the quality they offer.

The Health Minister, Ilir Beqja, valued their role in the development of health in Albania, and declared that private hospitals need to undergo audits by even checking the patient cards, to see the wide gamma of examination that is requested, often unnecessarily, but just to increase the patient’s bill.

“The Ministry’s duty is to approve these standards in cooperation with professional experts. It is our duty to request a rigorous implementation. There may be some excessive tests that are ordered. This concern is present in Tirana and also in other districts. The private health sector will undergo regular audits, with everything there is in patient cards. What has been the protocol and if they have been necessary”, Beqja declared.

During the annual analyze of the Tirana University Hospital Center, doctors in this center raised concerns about the doctors who leave their duty in public hospitals during their official work hours. For this reason, the Health Minister asked the hospital chiefs to be held responsible. Private hospitals will now be asked to be paid by the Health Insurance Fund, and have full time doctors.

“What we will try to do this year, is establishing more direct and more transparent relations with the non-public institutions. This is the time to invite them for the service packages to be approved within three or four weeks at the Fund, so that they are obliged to implement them. And we will ask for a regular implementation, so that the hospitals and institutions that benefit will have full time doctors, and no more people working in two or three places. I don’t wnant to damage their revenues, but the overload damages the quality”, Beqja declared.

The Health Minister declared that they will not block doctors from working in their private clinics after the official hours, but they will simply not allow them to take patients from public hospitals to their clinics.

“If doctors will keep working after the official hours at their cabinets or clinic, it’s an activity that is useful to the improved care. We must reduce the conflict of interest”, Beqja declared.
