99 years from the Vlora War, which forced the Italian Army retreat

A ceremony is being held in Vlora to commemorate the war of 1920, an uprising led by Albanian forces in areas occupied by the Italian Army.

A series of battles were conducted between the Italian forces and Albanian patriots in Vlora, to get hold of the city.

The three-month war was a large popular movement with the intention to protect the city form the total division that the Italian occupiers were creating.

On September 3rd, 1920, the Albanian forces marched triumphant on the city of Vlora, after forcing the Italian occupiers to retreat and free even Saranda, Durres and Shengjin.
