Vau i Dejes celebrated the 950th anniversary of the catholic dioceses of Sapa. This is one of the oldest churches in Albania.
In this ceremony held at the Mother Theresa Cathedral there was a delegation from the Holy See, led by the Special Envoy of Pope Benedicts XVI, Cardinal Santos Abrily Castello.
Present in this ceremony were Prime Minister Berisha and the Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli.
Berisha valued the Holy See of Vatican as one of Albania’s main allies during the history, and that the Albanians are the best believers in the world, because they respect each other’s religions.
“The spiritual force and other religions have had difficult times during the last 100 years. Today we are stronger and more determined to lead the Albanians in the lessons of good”, Berisha declared.
The Prime Minister promised to the Vau i Dejes devotees that the Saint Mary church will be rebuilt, which was the most ancient monument of the Albanian church and it was destroyed for the construction of the Vau i ejes hydropower plant.
The special envoy of the Pope, cardinal Santos Abrily Castello, who led the mass, read the message that Benedict 16th sent to all Albanians. The Pope thanked the devotees in Albania for the tolerance and religious harmony in our country.
