Nine officials and police officers in Gjirokastër have been suspended by a court decision, accused of abuse of duty.
Head of the Migration in Gjirokastra Police Florian Mustafaj, head of the Investigation sector Rami Ruci, coordinator of Operation with FRONTEX Behar Tafa, deputy commissioners Ediat Kanina and Bernard Kermaj, as well as inspectors Drini Caci, Ramiz Ballia, Emiljano Kazma and Dritan Sako, are suspected of the criminal offence “Abuse of duty” and “Assistance for illegal border crossing”.
The months-long investigation revealed that the police officers cooperated in transporting immigrants from third countries, from the Gjirokastër District to the territory of the Delvina Municipality, then releasing them in violation of the legal acts in force.
The investigations have shown that in some cases illegal immigrants in the Delvina area, they were transported against profit from other people, or they traveled inside the Albanian territory.
The Police Supervision Agency announces that they are following the case under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office to document the illegal activity of their employees or associates.
