The 83rd anniversary of the foundation of the Albanian Constitutional
Monarchy, declared as such by Ahmet Zogu on 1 September 1928 was honored
in Tirana not only by representatives of the Albania Republic, but
also by a rare exhibition.

Several valuable objects, costumes weaved with gold and silver, guns decorated with the same materials and other rare objects, including old portraits and pictures, all of Albanian origin and dating since the 16th century, were exhibited in the main hall of the Museum of National History.

These are part of the rich royal collection “Adamid Frasheri”, belonging by testament to the heir Prince Leka, today being exhibited for the first time in Albania for the 83rd anniversary of the foundation of the Albanian Monarchy. As the heir of the royal family declared, the exhibition of this rare collection aims to incite the public to protect the cultural inheritance and the national identity.

Prime Minister Berisha considered the exhibition a valuable treasure and he set the figure of Ahmet Zogu in the same height. He declared that the Albanian monarchy is one of most important pages in the nation’s history, and Ahmet Zogu was the main holder of the Albanian flag.

“Ahmet Zogu, with his dedication, patriotism, bravery, courage and intellect was able to stop a great deterioration, by bringing the Albanian independence out of the Balkan mess of that time. An independence without which our country wouldn’t exist”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister, as many other domestic and foreign scholars, valued Ahmet Zogu’s contribution for the consolidation of the new Albanian state. But he Prime Minister also emphasized the historical manipulations of the communist regime about his figure, and appealed the authorities to bring out the real archives and show them to the Albanians.

“History keeps being a ‘bad stepmother’ to the Albanians, and this time I mean in written works. It hasn’t given to the Albanians the real truth. It is still covered by the historical toxic ashes of the 45-year-long dictatorship. History should say the truth, and help the Albanians to know themselves better. This would help them to be themselves and have a clearer view for their future”, Berisha emphasized.
