The new academic year is starting soon, but schools in Lushnje are not
ready for students, and the Hygiene Director says that 80% of them need
to be closed.
One of them is in the Thanasaj village, Dushk commune, with cracked walls and floors, without illumination and even without a bathroom. The situation is even worse in winter, when the cold and rain enter classrooms.
Teachers of this school say that the building has not been repaired for years, although the local administration and the Education Ministry have received several requests from them. Teachers are trying to work on their own with what they can, by repairing things themselves.
“We bought the blackboards with our money. We have painted the walls and made other works, everything with money collected by teachers”, another teachers says.
“As a pedagogic council, we are trying to minimize problems here. We would want to start a normal first day of school, but we don’t have even illumination, water, and doors are broken”, says director Dashamir Sula.
The Lushnje Hygiene Directory that monitors schools for hygiene reports that this schools should not be opened, because it doesn’t fulfill the parameters, and according to Cela, 80% of schools in Lushnje should be closed.
