Kosovo celebrated the 8th year of independence today in Prishtina, in
presence of international diplomats and the highest state
representatives, but without the opposition.

President Atifete Jahjaga appealed the political leaders for unity and dialogue. She said that this is the time to froget disagreements and grudges, and replace it with dialogue that keeps the culture of agreements alive.

PM Isa Mustafa said that his government will work with the USA and other international friends to complete the transformation of the Security Forces into the Armed Forces of Kosovo.

Kosovo’s independence has been recognized by 111 states and has become member of many international organizations.

After paying homage to the memorial of the legendary commander in Prekaz, Adem Jashari, and at the grave of President Ibrahim Rugova, Deputy PM Hashim Thaci and PM Isa Mustafa said that the opposition has no reason to protest and ruin the citizens’ celebrations.

The ceremony had no officials from Albania, although many citizens traveled to Prishtina to celebrate. Some who would join the protest had been stopped at the border.
