The US Congress held a forum focusing on the geopolitical challenges in Southeastern Europe. The participants, including US lawmakers, politicians from South Eastern and Western Europe, expressed their concerns about the Russian intervention and the impact that other geopolitical circumstances could have for this region.
Present in the meeting were the Albanian Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, accompanied by MPs Elona Gjebrea, Fatmir Mediu and Aldo Bumci.
“What we all agree for is whether we want to get to the root of the problem and create a situation of stability perspective in the region. This is related mostly to the economic development and the EU integration of South Eastern Europe”, Minister Gjiknuri declared.
Gjiknuri added that the Berlin process is an instrument for engaging all SEE countries towards a bigger economic cooperation, from infrastructure to energy and trade.
“The news we received today is that the strategy of the European Union is clear, that the countries of the region need to integrate, regardless of their different speeds. The important thing is that all countries are giving maximal efforts. There are difficulties and the European Union will help through a clear strategy and financial support, in order to overcome the deficiencies that the region has inherited in infrastructure”, underlined the Albanian Minister for Infrastructure, Damian Gjiknuri.
