While politicians are keeping Albania outside the EU, there are more Albanians than ever who are joining the union on their own.
The European Institution of Statistics reported that in 2017, 59.000 Albanians received their citizenship in EU countries, 92% of them in Italy and Greece.
According to Eurostat, Albanians are the second largest community getting citizenship after Moroccans, who had 68.000 citizenships.
This tendency has been going on for several years. According to Eurostat, 260.000 Albanians have received Eu citizenship from 2013 to 2017.
This is equal to 10% of Albania’s total population, which means that in every five years, the country loses the population of an entire local district.
