On the International Women Day, the Mayor of Tirana, members of the Municipal Council, Directors of Administrative Units and members from the civil society joined the initiative for planting 500 trees at the park near Tirana’s Artificial Lake, creating this way the “Mothers’ Trail”.
“I appeal men and boys to understand that girls undertake most of the sacrifices. Public transportation was free for women today. It is a small gesture for recognizing the contribution and sacrifice that women give to Tirana’s success”, Veliaj said.
For Veliaj, Tirana is the city with the highest gender equality, but there is still more to do. “Tirana is the lady’s city”, Veliaj added.
“Not only most of the Municipal Council members are women, but also 70% of the city’s management is done by women. There’s that expression ‘behind every man there is a woman’, but it cannot be valid here because behind every successful city there are many women and ladies who run the city’s progress”, Veliaj said.
