For 14 years her ex-husband refused to pay what the court ordered as a minimal pension for the upbringing of their child, but Miranda Merkohasani obtained the pension through state execution agencies.

The woman is determined that until the daughter turns 25 and completes her studies, the father must pay the alimony.

In Albania, almost 3 thousand citizens refuse to pay alimony for their children as set by the court. Under these conditions, women turn to the state bailiffs, but men increasingly insist that they have no income and no job.

Piro Lutaj, general director of the bailiff agency said: Unfortunately, the figure is high, because couples in Albania after divorce do not understand that in order to continue living, they have to take care of the child. Based on the denunciations of the bailiff services, many of these citizens have ended up sued in the prosecutor’s office, while there are also cases of alienation of property if the father does not pay the alimony.
