On this date, 27 years ago, Albania reestablished its diplomatic relations with the USA, which turned Washington into the biggest ally of Albania in the region.
The relations were interrupted for 52 years, until the understanding memorandum signed on March 15th, 1991, by the Foreign Minister of that time, Muhamet Kapllani and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Raymond G.F Seitz.
“The relations between our countries started in the early years of this century when President Woodrow Wilson offered American support to the new Albanian state. The relation was not forgotten by thousands of Albanian-Americans, who kept their ties with their country during these years”, Seitz declared at that time.
The day was commemorated by the US Embassy in Tirana, through a post on social networks.
