The Kacarello Bridge is one of the rarest architectural monuments in the Pogoni area, at the Dropull Municipality, and in urgent need of restoration.
The dense vegetation that covers the bridge’s body, the weakened structure in its southern part and the river flow could cause the destruction of this medieval construction.
The 230-year-old bridge has been used for commerce, connecting both sides of the Pogon region.
However, its functional role has been reduced with the passing of years due to massive emigration.
The administrator of the Pogoni unit said that residents are concerned that the bridge could have the fate of the Hoshteva one, which was destroyed this February. This is why an intervention is needed before it is too late.
The Kacarello Bridge is among the few monuments with unique architecture values in the Pogon region. Now visited only by adventure travelers, the bridge proves the brilliant engineering during Ali Pasha ruling.
