Beaches in Vlora will have lifeguards this year, after dozens of towers were installed.
Every private operator that uses beaches, will have to employ lifeguards as well. The Vlora Municipality will not give permits without a lifeguard contract.
Perparim Kamberaj, head of the lifeguards in Vlora, said that this is a moral obligation to holiday makers.
“We are trained just like sportists. We learn first aid techniques and saving procedures”, he said.
Vlora needs at least 200 lifeguards, and they need to be trained.
Six people drowned last year in Vlora, and probably lifeguards could have saved them.
