Kostandin Kristoforidhi, born 190 years ago, is considered the “father”
of Albanian language during the Renaissance period for his intensive
grammatical studies.

Besides publishing the ABC and psalms in Albanian, he also was the first to work with the grammar rules.

Kristoforidhi dedicated his entire life to the Albanian school and education. Today, his work “The Prey of Highlanders” will be on sale, after a digital editing made by the National Library.

“After publishing the ABC Book in Albanian, in 1882 he published the Albanian Grammar. Then he worked for the entire time for the Dictionary, and even on other education books”, said scholar Xhevat Lloshi.

Kristoforidhi traveled very often between Izmir, Istanbul and Malta. The only books in Albanian that circulated during 1865-1879 in Albania were the ones published by Kostandin Kristoforidhi, under the care of the British Biblic Association for Foreign Countries.

The National Library is publishing some of his original works on this anniversary.
