Katerina Plaka, a 16-year-old girl from the village of Topoje in Fier, is an 11th grade student at Andon Profka High School, but does not participate in the online learning process like all her fellow students.
The reason for this is the difficult economic situation of her family. The 16-year-old lives with her paralyzed mother and her grandmother, while their economic income is only 10 thousand ALL per month. Since the school closed due to the pandemic, she has not communicated with teachers and classmates about online lessons, as she has no such possibilities.
Catherine’s mother is paralyzed and cannot help her daughter. She receives only 2,600 ALL per month in aid.
Their daughter’s life has been extremely difficult even before the coronavirus appeared. She suffers a lot the exclusion from the online lessons. Today she takes care of her mother and grandmother as well doing the hard work inthe family house, in anticipation of the end of pandemic and resumption of lessons.
