Half of the Shupenza commune families have no tap water supply. Some
haven’t had it for at least 15 years. Residents are obliged to fill
buckets each day, carrying them for one kilometer.
The only solution for them has been opening wells by digging 40 meters underground. But this cost is very high and not all residents can afford.
Several villages in Bulqize suffer from the lack of tap water. Aqueducts and water sources are often damaged.
