Greek police has said has seized a record 13 tons of cannabis from February 2016 to February 2017 in different operations and almost all the quantity originates from Albania. Greek sources confirmed for Top Channel that the cannabis which came from Albania dominated the local market because of the cheaper price and large quantities supplied by traffickers.
Massive operations from Greek police to prevent local farmers to cultivate cannabis has also contributed that the quantity of home grown cannabis to be insignificant.
At least from two years now, Greek authorities apply a monitoring system of the territory from the air, but nonetheless drug trafficking in the country has increased. Official data show Greeks mostly use light drugs like cannabis and ecstasy while heroine that comes from Turkey it’s headed to the other European countries. Cocaine – known as the drug of the rich – also has had a decrease in consumption perhaps because of the economic difficulties the country has experienced.
