With 100 votes in favour, seven against and two abstains, the Parliament voted a resolution against the decision of the Albanian President, Ilir Meta, to repeal June 30th as the date for local elections.
In this resolution, the Parliament appeals the President to reflect and bring his institution within the competences known by the Constitution, without undertaking any other flagrant violation of the Constitution.
The resolution was voted after five hours of debate from the MPs of the majority and opposition.
The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, said that the President has gone beyond his competences: “What does Meta want again from Albania? He’s not fifty yet and he has taken more than anyone else in history”, Rama said, adding that the Socialist Party will not withdraw from June 30th.
