In this gloomy economic situation in the West, the salvation might come
from the East. More than 100 foreign companies, mainly from Islamic
countries, arrived in Tirana for a special business meeting with Prime
Minister Berisha, talking about the start of concrete projects.
“This conference is reviewing and will review projects of a great importance for the country, the Skavica hydropower plan, which complete the Drini cascade”, Prime Minister Berisha declared.
The Islamic Bank for Development has turned into one of the main financing operators for the biggest public projects in Albania, including the Tirana-Elbasan highway.
The purpose of this forum is to bring in Albania the private capitals of these countries, in a time when the crisis has frozen the capitals from the traditional western partners.
“We are discussing with the Albanian government and some representatives of the private sector for a series of projects that would bring prosperity to the Albanian citizens. Regardless the global crisis, we will support the project for Albania’s progress”, declared Halid Al Abudi, Director of the Islamic Corporation for the Private Sector.
Besides the energy, this conference will also discuss other projects in the fields of tourism, agriculture and other economic branches.
This is the third investment conference organized by the Islamic Bank. The first one was held in 1995, the second in 2009.
This conference has brought to Tirana the biggest number of investors from Islamic countries, and for the first time the participants are discussing concrete investments also of public-private character.
