10 mosques out of control

Albania has 850 mosques in total, but 10 of them are not under the
control of the Muslim Community. Besides the one at the Unaza e Re,
others are also problematic, such as the one in Zall Herr, a mosque in a
Librazhd village, in Leshnica, Pogradec; Rrashbull, Durres; another one
in Shkoder and the mosque of Cerrik.

Sources confirm that the Muslim community has been negotiating for months to take it under control. A few months ago they took under their jurisdiction the Mosque of Mzez, which used to be listed as a problematic one, since its former imam, Bujar Hysa, was arrested over terror charges.

The Muslim Community has not spoken about the mosques with self-declared imams. Their only official declaration was released a year ago by the Chairman of Cult Committees, Ilir Dizdari, who said there are 80 mosques in Albania that are currently out of control.

Even today, one year from this declaration, the Muslim Community and state institutions have no official data about what they will do with these mosques that were reported as out of control.

But by now it is known that some followers of these mosques are being watched by the Secret Service and Anti-Terror due to their radical behavior and their ties with people fighting to Syria.
