Thousands of men and women filled the “Pallati i Kongreseve” square for
the State Police recruitment test, which had as motto “Safety, Innovation
and Progress”.
10.000 applicants who undergo a 4-day test. 1400 of them are women. 500 candidates will be chosen, 50% of them will be females. After the selection they will start the training course.
The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, asked police leaders to increase the acceptance number to 1000, so that the average age among officers reaches European levels.
“Only the best will be chosen in this competition. Merit will be the only winning factor, not family acquaintances. We are here to guarantee that the competition will meet the level of hopes and dreams for 10.000 boys and girls, not only for the organization, but also for transparency and merit. These people came to be assessed for what they really are”, Rama declared.
“The transformation and modernization of the state police has already started, and this has been understood even by people in the crime world”, the Prime Minister declared.
“There has been a strong reaction from the crime world. These are the reactions of a criminality which is producing this strength. Most of murders are retaliations between first hand criminals. This is another sign that crime is feeling that its time in Albania is coming to an end. The time when Police uniforms were mistreated is over. The time of criminal connections with the State Police is over”, Rama declared.
Minister Tahiri welcomed the candidates at the State Police, considering them as the biggest challenge of the new generation of the Albanian police.
“We are modernizing the police service with innovative technology, in order to increase safety during service, but also to let our citizens make use of the digital world. We are building a modern police with sophisticated equipment and high technology. Let me welcome you once again for making our state stronger, better and more modern”, Tahiri declared.
Opposition: Crime is ruling
The Democratic Party reacted regarding the Police test, saying that this practice has been followed for years, and only thanks to this practice we now have an educated and capable police.
Declaring that crime is ruling, Parliament Member Arben Ristani accused the government of destroying professional police by turning it into a party police.
“They cannot speak about innovation in a time when these tests have turned into a standard procedure for the state police since 2006. They cannot speak about progress when there are more than 600 police officers graduated in one or two universities, with certifications from inside and outside Albania, and who have been fired today. We cannot speak about safety, while drugs is being spread throughout Albania. The drug production that couldn’t reach the streets because of the police has now overflown Albania and is trying to attack the borders of Europe”, declared the Democratic Party Parliament Member, Arben Ristani.
